Who We Are

In Scotland a Working Group has been formed. With the changes to charitable status that have taken place at head office, together with the re-branding and new logos, this has resulted in an opportunity for the re-structuring of how the S&TA operates in Scotland.

Until recently Scotland was considered as one region or branch, a situation that many thought needed to change. Now, Scotland has its own regions so that a proper regional organisation can operate giving more effective cover and service nationwide. There are three primary objectives that have been established as our current targets:

1. Charity Registration: Whilst the S&TA has charitable status, it is registered in England, therefore the S&TA(Scotland) has to apply for registration as a charity operating in Scotland. This may take some time, but we are in discussions with lawyers and experts who can advise the best way forward to achieve registration.
2. Constitution: A new draft constitution has been prepared in line with recommendations for a registered charity. This will be tabled at the appropriate time for discussion and adoption.
3. Annual General Meeting: Once a timeframe has been established for the charity registration, then an AGM should be called so that the Scottish membership can be fully briefed on the process and this is when the new constitution can be tabled.

Currently, the old Council has been dissolved, by nature of retirements and non-renewals. In the meantime a Working Group has been formed that can operate without restrictions to progress all of the above issues. Eventually a new council will be elected, members of which will include all the regional representatives. The representatives are already part of the Working Group so they will all be a part of the design and implementation process.

The Regional Representatives are already active and have been raising the profile of S&TA(Scotland) by visiting tackle shops, hotels and fisheries in their region. The purpose is to let existing trade members know what we are doing, encourage new trade members and provide information that will result in a local and national database available to help visiting fishermen.
