SALMON AND TROUT ASSOCIATION (SCOTLAND) RECEIVES MAJOR DONATION FROM SPEYSIDE ANGLING CLUB

Baxters Angling Club, originally started and supported by the late Mr Gordon Baxter CBE DL of Baxters Food Group in Fochabers for the angling enthusiasts amongst its employees, has donated £3700 to the Salmon and Trout Association (Scotland) (S&TA(S)), the leading wild fish conservation organisation.

Hugh Steven, senior member of Baxters Angling Club, said: “We had excess funds that we wished to put towards fish conservation. We have been impressed by the S&TA(S) and its determination to address the main threats to our salmon and sea trout. We are particularly concerned that coastal netting for salmon is now on the increase and we are pleased that our funds will contribute to the S&TA(S)’s ongoing campaign to reduce indiscriminate salmon netting. It is important that, in these times of poor marine survival, as many of our salmon and sea trout as possible are allowed to reach their rivers of origin”.

Hughie Campbell Adamson, Chairman of S&TA(S), commented: “We are very grateful indeed to Baxters Angling Club for its most generous contribution towards our efforts to conserve wild salmon and sea trout numbers for future generations”.
